Why is everything so expensive

Almost everything we need to survive is getting really expensive! From groceries, to gas, to housing. And our governments are doing nothing to help the average person be able to afford these expensive prices. Price caps could be easily put on essentials to prevent businesses from ripping us off. But they won't do that because it doesn't make money .
Because housing has gotten so expensive in our area and across the country so many people have been forced out onto the streets. It is not because these are bad people they can't afford rent or a house payment and every time housing prices my go up we all feel we are one step closer to joining them. Our government could easily go after these giant faceless real estate companies that are buying up all the housing and making the housing prices go up by forcing them to contribute some of this housing to our neighbors that are now on the street. But they won't, because that doesn't make money.
